The Osh Regional Blood Center, which serves the entire southern region of the republic – the Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions – received a new 100 kW diesel genset from the Kumtor Gold Company (KGC).

The Osh Regional Blood Center has been operating as an independent healthcare organization since February 2002. About 4 tons of donor blood is procured annually in this center. The problem of safe storage of blood and its components is of no small importance. In this regard, there was a vital need to purchase a powerful genset for an uninterrupted power supply to the low-temperature chamber units, where blood and its components are stored, in case of a long-term disconnect the main power supply networks (more than 6-8 hours).

“We are very grateful to Kumtor for the diesel genset installed at our center. It is already set to work if there is a power failure. Now our strategic blood supply will not be affected. Previously, we have repeatedly approached the regional administration and the Ministry of Health to resolve this issue, without success. It’s excellent news that Kumtor is now fully owned by Kyrgyzstan and provides assistance throughout the country”, said Melisbek Ormonov, director of the Osh Regional Blood Center.
