Inspections were conducted by the National Mining Safety & Engineering Inspectorate (Gosgortechnadzor), Environment and Forestry Agency, Issyk-Kul Regional Center of Sanitary Inspection, Geoecology Department of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, etc.
It should be noted that Gosgortechnadzor alone conducted six inspections of the Kumtor mine in 2011. Moreover, the Kumtor mine was visited by a Jogorku Kenesh Working Group and Inter-Department Commission formed by an order of the KR Prime Minister in 2011.
In addition, the Company was twice audited in 2011 for procedures and documentation pertaining to cyanide transportation, storage and use during gold production. A group of WESA independent experts, selected by the International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI), provided an opinion to the effect that all the procedures and operations employed by the Company were in full compliance with the principles set forth in the International Cyanide Management Code. As a result, the Certificate awarded by ICMI to Kumtor Operating Company in May 2011 became a key event in the Company’s activities related to its environmental responsibility.
