Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov visited Kumtor mine. 

During the trip Akylbek Zhaparov visited the central open pit, familiarized with the working process at the gold extraction plant and the workshop for repair of heavy mining equipment, the algorithm of functioning of the new fueling complex.

The President of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC, Almazbek Baryktabasov noted that currently the Kumtor mine is actively working on the implementation of the underground gold mining project.

“This will make it possible to produce about 115 tons of gold. We also plan to launch a project to extract gold from the spent ore in the mine’s tailings pond. According to preliminary estimates, this will allow for extraction of about 120 tons of gold. In addition, the development of the Togolok gold deposit with a gold reserve of more than 17 tons and exploration of the prospective Dzhangart area, located 200 km from the Kumtor mine, is underway,” said Almazbek Baryktabasov.

Head of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov emphasized the importance of uninterrupted operation of the mine and fulfillment of all plans.

“Over the last two years, the company has made a big step forward in terms of automation of all processes. For example, last year, only after the introduction of an automated accounting system at the fueling complex, it was possible to save considerable financial resources. At the same time, work is underway to gradually increase the share of local suppliers in the total volume of purchases made by the company. All these steps are aimed at making the mine work in the interests of our people and the state,” said Akylbek Zhaparov.

It should be noted that at the end of 2023, the company produced 13,567 kg of gold, and paid 17.2 billion KGS to the country’s budget in the form of taxes, social contributions, and other payments. In addition, at the end of last year it is planned to pay more than 151 million USD in the form of dividends.
