Teachers and 2nd-3rd-year students of the U.Asanaliyev Mining Engineering and Technologies Institute, studying in the groups “Process Safety and Mine Rescue Work” and “Environment-Friendly Mining Engineering”, Health, Safety and Environment Department, made a tour of the Kumtor Mine last week-end.

The students visited the open pit, gold mill, new camp. Petrov Lake and waste treatment facilities. Representatives of relevant facilities informed the students about the mine’s production process and answered their questions.

“Innovative activities of ongoing businesses are what we, teachers, are mostly interested in. It was very instructive for us to see how the mine works and make sure that HSE rules are observed by the mine,” said Zulfiya Jumasheva, an HSE Department professor.

“Safety procedures at the Kumtor mine were always cited as exemplary by our professors. But you must see everything with your own eyes. I’m happy to get a chance to visit Kumtor to learn more about this gold mine, the largest one in the Kyrgyz Republic, especially because my future occupation, Process Safety and Mine Rescue Work, is directly related to mining business,” said Samat Shabdanov, a Mining and Metallurgy Department student.
