Being a large mine, leading mining in an open (quarry) way, «Kumtor» inevitably affects the environment. We maintain our commitment to conserve natural biodiversity and reduce the environmental impact of production during mine operations and work with partners to increase biodiversity. We understand that, in order to meet these challenges, consultations and work with local, national and international partners are necessary.
Kumtor is one of the highest gold deposits in the world. It is located in the eastern part of the Mid-Tan Shan at an altitude of over 4,000 meters above sea level, in the permafrost zone. The deposit is located in Issyk-Kul region 350 km from the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic – Bishkek.
