Gold Mill at Kumtor Mine Suspends Operation to Carry Out Planned Major Maintenance

published: 19 February 2015

Kumtor Gold Company reports that the gold mill at the Kumtor mine site will suspend ore processing on February 23, 2015, to carry out planned major maintenance and equipment upgrades. Operations are expected to resume at full capacity by March 13, 2015.

Approximately 50 experts from six countries will arrive to the Kumtor mine site to dismantle and install new parts in the three mills at Kumtor. Design and fabrication of new parts for the Kumtor mills took more than 18 months and were produced in North America and Europe.

President of Kumtor Gold Company Daniel Desjardins commented, “The main result we expect to obtain from the installation of new parts is an opportunity to improve equipment reliability, minimize mill down time and increase ore processing rates. Modernization of the gold mill is designed to extend the life of the mine.”

During the period which the mill will not be in operation, mining operations will continue as normal.
